De kwal is een waterinlaat in de Noordhollandse duinen tussen Castricum en Heemskerk. Het water dat hier doorheen stroomt is afkomstig uit het IJsselmeer. Dit water wordt in Andijk voorgezuiverd en vervolgens via een pijp naar Heemskerk gepompt. Het wordt daar nogmaals gefilterd en gaat bij de kwal de duinen in. Op een natuurlijke wijze worden.
